ESA's sustainable waste collection systems on display at Green MED Symposium in Naples. ESA, with its participation in the exhibition dedicated to the issues of the green economy, presented some of its sustainable technologies for waste collection to numerous representatives of the Regions of Southern Italy. ESA exhibited the bilateral waste collection system 2AS and the solar-powered compactor from the K-Solar series. The important conference, held at the Naples Maritime Station from 8 to 10 June, saw the participation of the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo de Luca, and the Presidents of ISPRA and Conai . The three-day event, promoted by Ricicla.tv and Ecomondo , focused on the themes of European funds, planning for Southern Italy, the ecological and digital transition and waste management in the southern regions. For the occasion, our CEO Nicola Chiastrini participated in the panel discussion about the PNRR for the ecological transition in the South. In his speech entitled "Tools, methods and strategies for governance of European funds for local authorities", the CEO of ESA presented the point of view of a private company in the sector and the challenges that await Southern Italy. " To improve waste logistics and protect the environment, you cannot choose the collection model regardless of the territorial context - said Chiastrini. To comply with the new ARERA compliance model, costs must be optimized and plant management improved. paying attention to the citizen, through the security of the collection and the mutual exchange of data between the latter and the municipal companies. To better manage the relationship with the user, improve the punctual rate through data and improve the environmental impact, ESA has developed an integrated system that meets all the needs of modern cities ". The sustainable technology of ESA's 2AS System at IFAT 2022 . The last edition of IFAT, the world-wide reference event for the most advanced technologies for the environment, has just ended in Messe München (Germany), which took place from 30 May to 3 June and saw the influx of over 120,000 visitors from all over the world. The event was an opportunity to present the latest technical innovations of the 2AS System, the robotic equipment for bilateral waste collection: the new F-90 gripper, different types of recycled HDPE containers and the modern human-machine interface (HMI), which makes the work of the operators extremely simple and comfortable. The constant attention to the needs of Customers and international Partners has allowed ESA to reveal a novelty much awaited by the market: the F-90 gripper for hooking all above-ground and underground containers equipped with mushroom hooks. The new equipment allows containers to be emptied in just 65 seconds and allows modern Smart Cities that are already equipped with bins with F-90 to be completely free to choose the desired equipment, without constraints. This novelty expands the company's offer and joins the Kinshofer and Multi-Mushroom grippers, the latter presented at the last Ecomondo and designed for containers with different lengths of Kinshofer and F-90 hooks. To complete the system, the new versions of containers in recycled HDPE, the essence of the circular economy, have been introduced in the Standard and Slim series, which can be fully customized by the Customer with loading points and bascules in metal or HDPE, Kinshofer or F-90 hook and electronics for user recognition. Noteworthy is the strong attention paid to the comfort of the drivers: the latest version of the 2AS human-machine interface, consisting of a touch screen monitor integrated into an ergonomic armrest, specially designed by the technical team, allows for better posture when checking the cabin operations and reduces arm and joint fatigue. ESA's strength is also the reduction of the environmental and economic impact of shipments, especially in today's global economic context. In fact, the company showed the many IFAT visitors the solution adopted to reduce pollution and costs deriving from the international handling of its equipment; by anchoring the robot to a skid, which allows to reduce its size, ESA ensures the safe transport of 4 robots in a single container, allowing Customers all over the world to receive the 2AS wherever they are, ready for installation on trucks. 2AS System is compatible with all natural gas, hybrid and electric powered trucks, and is the technological and sustainable solution for Smart Cities: it can be integrated with all ESA waste logistics technologies and contributes to less pollution thanks to the management software, which defines the best path, avoiding unnecessary emptying and bringing significant economic and environmental savings to the user companies. ESA would wholeheartedly like to thank each of the numerous visitors who came to the stand to try our solutions.
2AS containers in HDPE in Taranto
Taranto continues its path of technological and sustainable innovation in waste collection with the adoption of intelligent containers in recycled HDPE combined with the 2AS System collection system already in use by the municipality. Last week the positioning of the first 2AS HDPE containers for separate collection began in the city of Taranto. The Municipality, which already uses ESA's bilateral lifting equipment 2AS System , has decided to embrace the complete collection system, choosing the combined containers in recycled HDPE, thus opting for the best performance and maximum operational safety given by the adoption of the whole system. The containers made by ESA on behalf of Kyma Ambiente , the urban hygiene company owned by the Municipality, follow the subdivision of the fractions for Taranto: yellow for multi-material (paper, cardboard, plastic and metal), green for glass, brown for organic waste and gray for unsorted waste. Composed of 40% recycled material and fully recyclable at the end of their life cycle, the 2AS HDPE containers are equipped with electronics for user recognition and intelligent telemetry systems that alert the collection company if the container is full and needs to be emptied, making it possible to better plan waste logistics. The sustainability of the solution adopted passes both from the container itself, which promotes a lower turnover through the longevity and resistance of the construction materials, but also from the energy self-sufficiency of the electronics and sensors, which are recharged through the photovoltaic panel positioned below the loading point. The benefits of adopting the 2AS System are innumerable: reduction of atmospheric emissions, thanks to the possibility of planning the passage of collection vehicles and the speed of the operating cycle, of only 65"; reduction of noise pollution, especially during the conferment of glass; particular resistance to salt spray - not negligible benefit in a seaside area; unlike metal, in fact, salt does not corrode HDPE, making it suitable for the seaside; improvement of the urban decor, thanks to the resistance of the rotomoulded HDPE (which allows the container to maintain its original shape even in the event of accidental impacts and collisions) and to the texture of the coating, which prevents spray paints and adhesives from attacking the surface. The city, which was the first in Southern Italy to experiment with eco-friendly waste collection systems during markets and events, with the adoption of the solar-powered compactor KSolar by ESA, continues to innovate and invest in the improvement of separate collection, being mindful of both the environment and citizens. «This environmentally friendly supply - comments the President of Kyma Ambiente Giampiero Mancarelli - serves as a further stimulus to commit everyone to correct separate waste collection. We are talking about a real revolution that must change everyone's habits. It is precisely for this reason that collective collaboration is fundamental, only in this way can our Taranto be able to keep up with other Italian cities». Giorgia Iasoni, Vice President of ESA, declares herself «proud of this choice made by Kyma Ambiente and the Municipality of Taranto. The quality of the recycled material used for the production is such that it also goes well with the climate of the city, characterized by the sea, salty air and sun. Therefore, it is more durable than traditional metal containers. We are convinced that citizens will appreciate these new containers and will be used to the fullest ». https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsJhsO9xXCE
After two years of forced stop, ESA returns to Ecomondo and presents an awaited novelty for waste collection. The 24th edition of Ecomondo, the reference event in Europe for technological innovation and green economy, which is back in presence after almost two years of pandemic, has just ended in Rimini. ESA, for the occasion, exhibited the complete 2AS System to the numerous professionals of the sector, showing the conspicuous research and development work carried out in recent years, and presented a particularly awaited novelty: the MULTI-MUSHROOM CLAMP , capable of lifting all containers on the market, above-ground and underground, equipped with Kinshofer hook and now also F90. The new clamp, designed to operate with extreme speed and precision, finally frees Customers to choose vehicles and containers without obligations or ties. 2AS, the automatic and single-operator equipment for bilateral waste collection, thus confirms itself as the system with the most complete range on the market, which can be combined with the well-established smart containers in recycled HDPE, in the Standard and Slim versions, and the new underground containers for areas of architectural prestige, all customizable with the hook at the discretion of the Customer. The equipment, compatible with all methane, hybrid and electric powered trucks, is the GREEN and INTERCONNECTED solution for Smart Cities ; integrable with all waste logistics technologies, it contributes to the reduction of emissions into the atmosphere thanks to the management software that defines the best path, avoiding unnecessary emptying. To complete the solutions for waste logistics, the K-Solar roll-off compactor with controlled access, particularly suitable for urban separate collection during events or utility peaks, self-powered by the photovoltaic panels on the roof. Collaboration with Gruppo Hera was at the center of ESA's participation in the event, thanks to the display at the main entrance of a Group's vehicle, set up with the robotic system, used by the municipal company in the historic center of Rimini, and a customized nozzle of a 2AS underground in the Uniflotte stand, already present in various locations in the city. Learn more about the underground systems in Rimini HERE . This edition of Ecomondo was not only an opportunity to meet consolidated Customers and partners in presence and to establish future collaborations, but also an important moment of sharing and unity for all of us at ESA. ESA wholeheartedly would like to thank each of the numerous visitors who came to the stand to try our solutions.
Recycled HDPE: separate collection made sustainable
2AS containers: all the advantages of recycled HDPE for separate collection Technological solutions and respect for the environment are the principle on which Ecologia Soluzione Ambiente philosophy is based and which form the foundation of the 2AS System , an innovative modular robotic system for bilateral waste collection, single-man operated, which, thanks to the various set-ups and combinations proposed, adapts to the needs of all customers. The same system also includes a wide range of above-ground containers for separate waste collection, equipped with Kinshofer hook and made of recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE). "The advantages of this choice are numerous", says Enrico Benedetti, President of the Company. Being built with elements that reduce noise emission, polyethylene containers are quieter than others. This type of material - in general all plastic - is resistant to chemicals, water and saline solutions, and therefore retains its integrity better, even when exposed to high or low temperatures. "Then there are key factors to consider in the waste cycle that go in favor of this solution - underlines Benedetti - The polyethylene makes the product watertight and prevents leaks of percolating substances, which is very difficult, if not impossible, with others. containers. And, again, polyethylene has a thermal conductivity ten times lower than traditional materials; not heating up in the sun therefore allows a better conservation of the organic waste". Sustainability The use of plastic is often criticized when it comes to environmental sustainability. The sore point of polyethylene - which he fights insistently - is its dispersion into the environment. "However - points out the ESA President - it must be considered that the dispersion of plastics mainly concerns small and common / domestic products, not large monolithic products, which obviously are much less subject to dispersion in microplastics or abandonment" . Furthermore, again speaking of respect for the environment, polyethylene is a mono-material polymer (i.e. composed of a single type of plastic). “This purity of the material allows it to be 100% recycled”, highlights Benedetti. Elasticity The elasticity that characterizes polyethylene ensures that, in the event of accidental blows (an unusual release of the robot or a hit by a car while parking), the containers do not deform and do not dent. Even the vehicles are never damaged by contact with the container, which is quite usual, especially in heavily trafficked cities, where parking becomes almost a challenge. Furthermore, polyethylene is not a sharp material and this avoids all injuries, both for professionals and for citizens. Lightness Often the user who throws out the garbage has to force himself to open the lid, which is very heavy. The polyethylene container overcomes this problem, being very light and supporting only the steel of the loading point, the internal mechanisms and the bascules. With the same type of product compared to other materials, HDPE facilitates the action of the robot. Aesthetics and design The cleanliness of the streets and public spaces is a fundamental element of urban decor and is guaranteed by the containers, placed on the sidewalks and in the squares, which are emptied daily. The appearance of the containers also affects this. “Polyethylene is produced already intrinsically colored - explains the President - the containers, therefore, do not need to be painted, keep the color longer and are more pleasing to the eye. They represent the best choice from an aesthetic and environmental point of view. Also as regards the design, the polyethylene can be personalized with an indelible thermo-imprint. Last but not least - he concludes - cleaning and maintenance operations on a polyethylene container are easier ”.
ESA has recently concluded its participation in the 22nd edition of Ecomondo, which has seen the company attending with two stands: in the first one it displayed the robotized crane with the container washer, the new MEC, Mobile Environmental Center, the Greeny for the collection of PET and HDPE with incentive systems, a wide series of above-ground containers for every material and the pedal assisted cargo bike in its T-Waste version, dedicated to separate waste collection in limited traffic areas. Inside Sustainable City ESA has displayed TCargo in the T-Deliver version for its french client UPS. ESA can definetely say that the success of this year's edition of the leading event about Green and Circular Economy has been bigger than the previous years, thanks to the costant contribution of innovation and technology. The company has in fact shown for the first time its MEC (Mobile Environmental Center) dedicated to the collection of Electrical and Electronic Waste and its Greeny, a compactor for PET and HDPE bottles with incentive systems. Inside Sustainable City TCargo, the photovoltaic pedal assisted cargo bike, demanded by a great logistics company such as UPS, has shown that a delivery service can be done with zero impact and in total respect of the environment, which is the principle with which ESA always works.
