2AS Containers | Rome

Rome Renews Its Trust in ESA’s Sustainable Solutions with 600 New HDPE Containers The city of Rome continues to invest in urban sustainability by renewing its trust in ESA’s innovative solutions with the recent installation of 600 new HDPE containers dedicated to the separate collection of paper, plastic, organic waste, and mixed refuse. This new supply, launched a few weeks ago, represents an important step forward in improving the quality of service and the recycling experience for citizens in the Capital. The new containers stand out for their advanced functionality: thanks to wider disposal openings , the daily act of recycling becomes simpler and more accessible, encouraging greater citizen participation in separate waste collection practices. The choice to enlarge the openings responds directly to real user needs, making waste disposal more practical and faster. A key element of this supply is the use of recycled plastic in the manufacture of the containers. This material not only helps reduce the environmental impact of production but also brings tangible benefits in use: the HDPE containers are designed to limit unpleasant odors, prevent liquid stagnation, and reduce noise during disposal, thus improving urban decor and the quality of life in the affected areas. The adoption of recycled materials and attention to technical details confirm ESA’s commitment to promoting a true circular economy , where each product is conceived to be sustainable not only throughout its lifecycle but also in its production. This initiative has been made possible thanks to ongoing collaboration with the City of Rome and AMA S.p.A. , key partners who share the vision of a cleaner, more orderly, and responsible city. Together, we continue to work toward making the Capital a virtuous example of waste management and sustainable innovation.

TECMA 2022

ESA, together with Spanish partner DRAGO INGENIERÍA Y SERVICIOS, S.L., participated in TECMA 2022, the International Exhibition of Urban Planning and Environment, held in Madrid (Spain) from 14 to 16 June 2022. It was an opportunity to introduce one of our sustainable proposals for mobile waste collection: the photovoltaic compactor , powered by solar energy. K-SOLAR is a line of technological photovoltaic compactors able to guarantee a correct and ecological waste collection both in urban and industrial using and combining natural energy sources with high-performance batteries. The photovoltaic panels use the natural energy of the sun to ensure effective operation of the compactor and the integrated batteries ensure a continuous work cycle even in the absence of sun. As a result, and due to the lack of fuel supply, CO2 emissions are zero . The controlled access , moreover, allows the operator to encourage the virtuous behavior of the citizen through the recording of the bestowal data and the different sensors placed on the machine detect the level of filling , communicating to the system when it needs to be emptied. A big thank you to all the visitors who came to visit us at stand 8C07 of the Fairs in Madrid !

2AS containers in HDPE in Taranto

Taranto continues its path of technological and sustainable innovation in waste collection with the adoption of intelligent containers in recycled HDPE combined with the 2AS System collection system already in use by the municipality. Last week the positioning of the first 2AS HDPE containers for separate collection began in the city of Taranto. The Municipality, which already uses ESA's bilateral lifting equipment 2AS System , has decided to embrace the complete collection system, choosing the combined containers in recycled HDPE, thus opting for the best performance and maximum operational safety given by the adoption of the whole system. The containers made by ESA on behalf of Kyma Ambiente , the urban hygiene company owned by the Municipality, follow the subdivision of the fractions for Taranto: yellow for multi-material (paper, cardboard, plastic and metal), green for glass, brown for organic waste and gray for unsorted waste. Composed of 40% recycled material and fully recyclable at the end of their life cycle, the 2AS HDPE containers are equipped with electronics for user recognition and intelligent telemetry systems that alert the collection company if the container is full and needs to be emptied, making it possible to better plan waste logistics. The sustainability of the solution adopted passes both from the container itself, which promotes a lower turnover through the longevity and resistance of the construction materials, but also from the energy self-sufficiency of the electronics and sensors, which are recharged through the photovoltaic panel positioned below the loading point. The benefits of adopting the 2AS System are innumerable: reduction of atmospheric emissions, thanks to the possibility of planning the passage of collection vehicles and the speed of the operating cycle, of only 65"; reduction of noise pollution, especially during the conferment of glass; particular resistance to salt spray - not negligible benefit in a seaside area; unlike metal, in fact, salt does not corrode HDPE, making it suitable for the seaside; improvement of the urban decor, thanks to the resistance of the rotomoulded HDPE (which allows the container to maintain its original shape even in the event of accidental impacts and collisions) and to the texture of the coating, which prevents spray paints and adhesives from attacking the surface. The city, which was the first in Southern Italy to experiment with eco-friendly waste collection systems during markets and events, with the adoption of the solar-powered compactor KSolar by ESA, continues to innovate and invest in the improvement of separate collection, being mindful of both the environment and citizens. «This environmentally friendly supply - comments the President of Kyma Ambiente Giampiero Mancarelli - serves as a further stimulus to commit everyone to correct separate waste collection. We are talking about a real revolution that must change everyone's habits. It is precisely for this reason that collective collaboration is fundamental, only in this way can our Taranto be able to keep up with other Italian cities». Giorgia Iasoni, Vice President of ESA, declares herself «proud of this choice made by Kyma Ambiente and the Municipality of Taranto. The quality of the recycled material used for the production is such that it also goes well with the climate of the city, characterized by the sea, salty air and sun. Therefore, it is more durable than traditional metal containers. We are convinced that citizens will appreciate these new containers and will be used to the fullest ». https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FsJhsO9xXCE

Ecomondo 2021

After two years of forced stop, ESA returns to Ecomondo and presents an awaited novelty for waste collection. The 24th edition of Ecomondo, the reference event in Europe for technological innovation and green economy, which is back in presence after almost two years of pandemic, has just ended in Rimini. ESA, for the occasion, exhibited the complete 2AS System to the numerous professionals of the sector, showing the conspicuous research and development work carried out in recent years, and presented a particularly awaited novelty: the MULTI-MUSHROOM CLAMP , capable of lifting all containers on the market, above-ground and underground, equipped with Kinshofer hook and now also F90. The new clamp, designed to operate with extreme speed and precision, finally frees Customers to choose vehicles and containers without obligations or ties. 2AS, the automatic and single-operator equipment for bilateral waste collection, thus confirms itself as the system with the most complete range on the market, which can be combined with the well-established smart containers in recycled HDPE, in the Standard and Slim versions, and the new underground containers for areas of architectural prestige, all customizable with the hook at the discretion of the Customer. The equipment, compatible with all methane, hybrid and electric powered trucks, is the GREEN and INTERCONNECTED solution for Smart Cities ; integrable with all waste logistics technologies, it contributes to the reduction of emissions into the atmosphere thanks to the management software that defines the best path, avoiding unnecessary emptying. To complete the solutions for waste logistics, the K-Solar roll-off compactor with controlled access, particularly suitable for urban separate collection during events or utility peaks, self-powered by the photovoltaic panels on the roof. Collaboration with Gruppo Hera was at the center of ESA's participation in the event, thanks to the display at the main entrance of a Group's vehicle, set up with the robotic system, used by the municipal company in the historic center of Rimini, and a customized nozzle of a 2AS underground in the Uniflotte stand, already present in various locations in the city. Learn more about the underground systems in Rimini HERE . This edition of Ecomondo was not only an opportunity to meet consolidated Customers and partners in presence and to establish future collaborations, but also an important moment of sharing and unity for all of us at ESA. ESA wholeheartedly would like to thank each of the numerous visitors who came to the stand to try our solutions.

2AS System underground containers in Rimini

Rimini begins separate waste collection with the Underground Waste Collection Systems by ESA . A project strongly desired by the Municipality and Hera , which sees the 2AS System computerized underground containers as protagonists. The Councilor for the Environment, Anna Montini, and the Head of Hera Environmental Services Rimini, Fausto Pecci The first 4 of the 14 stations planned throughout the city were inaugurated on 28 July. The ceremony, which took place on the undergrounds of via Bastioni Occidentali, was attended by the Assessor for the Environment Anna Montini, the Head of Hera Rimini Area Fausto Pecci, the CEO of Heratech Antonio Dondi and the Head of the Press Office Monica Guidi, in addition to the Superintendence of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscapes. A choice of decorum, environmental sustainability and innovation, the one undertaken by the municipal council, to re-evaluate the historic center. "The redevelopment of urban spaces and the efficiency of waste logistics are key points for citizens - said the Councilor". The initiative, aimed at strengthening the current separate waste collection systems, involves 5,000 users and involves the construction of 14 2AS undergrounds that will allow the collection of all fractions through controlled access with card or smartphone and a better organization of urban spaces through the reduction of the number of above-ground containers, the timing and the passage of collection vehicles, with a consequent reduction in pollution. To promote hygiene, waste flows under the road surface, preventing odors and liquid residues from escaping. The undergrounds allow to accommodate 3500L of glass and organic waste, and 5000L of the remaining fractions. "We have decreased the aesthetic impact but increased the available volume" - commented Pecci. The undergrounds, in the visible part, consist of corten-effect turrets, agreed with the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscapes. At the base an engraving of Tonino Guerra's butterflies, a symbol of beauty, decorum and culture. Above, the short-stroke Kinshofer hook, which allows the 2AS robot to hook and empty in just 105”. Through the 2AS System underground containers, Rimini intends to develop a sustainable and smart collection system, improving the perception of environmental and architectural quality. With the gradual elimination of old containers and the insertion of new undergrounds, the aesthetics of the historic center will be enhanced, especially near historical-monumental elements. 2AS System Underground with access control system

2AS System underground containers in Massa

2AS System underground waste containers, located throughout the city of Massa, have been inaugurated. On 17th July the first ESA 2AS underground waste collection systems were inaugurated. The ceremony was held in front of the Town Hall, in the presence of the Mayor, Francesco Persiani, the leaders of Asmiu Massa and the Vice President and CEO of ESA. An important turning point for the city, one of the first to have adopted the new computerized undergrounds combined with the 2AS collection system. A choice aimed at encouraging and increasing separate waste collection, in addition to kerbside collection, which meets the needs of citizens and tourists, who will be able to confer throughout the day, thanks to access controlled by card. Minimalist design and small size make 2AS undergrounds easily adaptable to different areas of the city, resulting discreet and extremely hygienic. In fact, the waste, flowing under the road surface, never comes into contact with people and operators, avoiding possible odorous emissions. The height of the conferment point has been thought to make the service accessible to all users, especially the weakest, while the electronics, simple and intuitive, are designed to facilitate operations and are equipped with a photovoltaic panel to allow energy autonomy. The combination of underground waste containers and the 2AS bilateral collection system adopted by Asmiu Massa allows a considerable reduction of emissions into the atmosphere, thanks to the high capacity of the containers and the emptying time of only 105 seconds, which allows the vehicles not to interfere with city traffic. 2AS System is equipped with a modern management software for planning waste logistics, which allows for cutting the costs of unnecessary travels. Thanks to various sensors, GPS and IoT, the truck only goes where containers needs to be emptied, further contributing to the reduction of pollution. 2AS underground waste systems are available in volumes of 3, 4 and 5 cubic meters and can be customized in colour and conferment point.

Proximity and community composters

Ecologia Soluzione Ambiente enters strategic food waste recycling partnership with Tidy Planet . ESA has joined forces with Tidy Planet, a British company specialized in technologies for composting food waste, to promote greater resource efficiency. An increasing appetite in Italy for composting and equipment that helps enhance food and green waste is the main driver behind the partnership that will see ESA apply its know-how to the range of "Rocket" composters. “Italy, like many other European Union Member States, is under pressure from its government and policymakers to minimise its carbon emissions, and demonstrate the Country is working towards the United Nation’s 17 sustainable development goals. In this regard, environmental awareness is growing in Italy and composting is becoming an increasingly favoured solution to reduce the quantity of organic fraction conferred, also facilitated by a new update in Italian law, which allows small-scale, municipal composting to be implemented more easily, making it a priority on the waste management agenda, especially for companies that deal with waste management". Elaborating on the current landscape in Italy, ESA’s president, Enrico Benedetti, said: “There’s an upward composting trend in our country at the moment – with a handful of municipalities having already released tenders to supply in-vessel composters to mountain and rural communities". “At the heart of this partnership is the desire to equip our Nation’s villages with with increasingly sustainable waste systems and infrastructures, for a truly green future. In fact, if we’re able to process our food wastes at source, this will not only reduce disposal costs, but it will also drastically decrease our carbon footprint , with less collection vehicles on the roads, and allow for a landfill diversion strategy which can enhance the recycling of food waste and promote circular economy” - continues Benedetti. Italian Biorepack scheme, which centres around extended producer responsibility for compostable packaging, also came into force in 2020, to help reach the Waste Framework Directive’s target of recycling 65% of municipal waste by 2035. "At ESA we are constantly committed to expanding our offer of solutions to support the circular economy".
