The “CeStò” for the Municipality of Bari
4 April 2025L’Aquila Embraces Sustainability and Safety with the New #CeStò Bins!
In view of the 2024 Christmas holidays, the Municipality of L’Aquila has started installing new waste collection bins in the historic center of the city. This innovative project, which marks a significant step toward a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable city, is the result of a major initiative by the Ecological Transition Department, in collaboration with PNRR, PNC, and Civil Protection funds.
The new CeStò bins, already successfully adopted by the city of Rome, are made from recycled high-density polyethylene, a completely recyclable material that meets the highest environmental standards. Their robustness and resistance to weather conditions make them ideal for outdoor installation, while the self-extinguishing and anti-terrorism material provides an additional level of public safety, preventing dangerous situations and increasing protection for citizens.
Another distinguishing feature of the new CeStò bins is the integrated ashtray, designed to promote responsible behavior among smokers. This feature helps reduce pollution caused by cigarette butts and improves the city’s aesthetic and environmental quality by preventing such waste from being indiscriminately thrown on public land.
With this intervention, L’Aquila firmly establishes itself as one of the cities most focused on sustainability and safety, starting an urban renewal path that prepares it to take on the role of Italian Capital of Culture 2026. The project not only improves the city’s appearance but also represents a concrete commitment to environmental protection and the promotion of responsible citizenship.
ESA is particularly proud to contribute to this ambitious project, reaffirming its commitment to adopting innovative solutions that enhance livability and sustainability in our cities. With the introduction of CeStò bins, L’Aquila becomes a model to follow for other municipalities looking to invest in ecological and safe infrastructures, paving the way for a greener and more livable future for all.
